An unknown number
gets ignored

A bare number from a city they don't know looks like a cold call. Your business name gives them a reason to pick up.

Calling back a new lead

They filled in your form an hour ago. Your name on the screen tells them this is the callback they asked for.

Calling before a job

You ring to say you're ten minutes out. The customer sees the business they booked, not a stranger.

Following up on a quote

The quote went out last week. A name they recognise gets you the conversation instead of a voicemail.

How your name
reaches their screen

Your name goes into CNAM, the database US and Canadian carriers read as the phone rings.

It's your business name showing on the screen of the person you call, instead of only your phone number. On Allo it works through CNAM (Caller ID Name), the caller name database that US and Canadian carriers read when a call comes in.

In the Allo app, open Settings > Numbers, pick your number, and find Number reputation. Type your business name in Caller ID Name (CNAM) and press Save. Allo registers it with the carriers, and it starts showing within 72 hours. The full walkthrough is in the help center.

Nothing. Branded caller ID is included in every Allo plan, with no add-on, no setup fee and no charge per call.

Up to 72 hours after you save it. Some networks keep an older name cached for a while, so a few calls may still show the previous listing during that window.

It depends on the carrier of the person you call, because that network decides what appears on its customers' screens. Landlines show caller names. Many mobile plans do too, and some carriers only show them with a caller ID option on the plan. If the person has saved you as a contact, they see the name they saved.

US and Canadian local numbers on Allo. Toll-free numbers aren't supported by the carriers. If the field is greyed out on one of your numbers, hover it to see why, or contact our team.

Your business name, in up to 15 letters, numbers and spaces. Use a short form people will recognise: "SMITH PLUMBING" rather than "Smith Plumbing & Heating Services LLC". It has to be the name of the business that is calling.

Yes. The name is set once in the app, so to change it, or to fix a number that still shows a previous owner's name, contact support and we update the listing with the carrier.

Not on its own. Spam labels come from carrier analytics and screening apps, which score how a number behaves. A registered caller ID name is one of the signals that helps. Check your number for free with our phone number reputation lookup, and see the number reputation guide.

No. Showing a logo and a reason for the call is a separate standard (Rich Call Data), sold per call by specialist vendors and supported by a few carriers. Allo registers your business name (CNAM), which every US carrier can read, for free.
