How to get your Verizon transfer PIN

Verizon calls it a Number Transfer PIN. The Account Owner or an Account Manager creates it, it expires after 7 days, and one PIN covers every line on the account.

Get your Verizon Number Transfer PIN

You need a standard monthly account, signed in as the Account Owner or an Account Manager.

Dial #PORT

From the smartphone with the number you want to transfer, dial #PORT. Verizon texts you a link: open it to generate the PIN in the My Verizon app.

In the My Verizon app or website

Sign in, go to the Create Your Number Transfer PIN page and select Generate PIN. It works without the phone too: sign in from another device.

By phone or in a store

If you can't use the website or the app, call Verizon Customer Service at 800-922-0204 or visit an official Verizon store.

Verizon Business accounts

Each line needs its own PIN, created by the Primary Contact or an Administrator. It arrives by text on the line and by email. For 10 lines or more, call 1-800-922-0204.

On Business, the PIN lasts 7 days and can be generated up to 5 times a day per line.

What you'll need
To port your number

Have these ready before you start. Each one has to match what Verizon has on file.

  • Verizon account number

At the top of your monthly paper bill, or under Profile in My Verizon, at the top of the page.

  • Number Transfer PIN

The PIN you generate in the steps above.

  • Account holder name

Exactly as it appears on your bill.

  • Billing address

With the ZIP code and state your carrier has on file.

  • Your latest bill

A PDF of the most recent invoice.

  • Letter of authorization

We prepare it, you sign it in the app.

Before you start
Four things worth knowing

The details that save you a rejected request or a line with no service.

Don't cancel Verizon

Your line has to stay active until the port is done. Cancel early and the number is released, and the port fails.

How long the Number Transfer PIN lasts

It expires after 7 days. Give it to your new carrier right away, and generate a new one if the port didn't start in time.

How long it takes

In the US, a mobile number usually takes 2 to 4 business days and a landline 7 to 10. We tell you the date as soon as the carrier confirms it.

What it costs

Verizon doesn't charge to port a number, but it may bill an early termination fee or a device balance. Allo charges nothing for the port.

Why a port gets rejected
And how to avoid it

Almost every rejection comes down to one detail that doesn't match what the carrier has on file.

The name doesn't match

The most common cause. Enter the account holder exactly as it appears on your Verizon bill.

Wrong account number or PIN

Verizon's PIN expires after 7 days and only the Account Owner or an Account Manager can create it. If yours has expired, generate a new one and update the request.

Number Lock is on

While Number Lock is on, Verizon blocks the number from leaving. Turn it off before you get the PIN.

A balance due or a cancelled line

An unpaid balance can hold up the port, and a cancelled line can't be ported until it is reactivated.

Bring your Verizon number to Allo
Free, and your line keeps ringing

With the PIN and the account number in hand, the port to Allo starts in the app. We deal with your carrier from there.

01

Start the port in Allo

In the app, go to Settings > Numbers > Port a number and add your account number, PIN, account holder and billing address.

02

We deal with Verizon

We confirm the number can move within 24 hours and email you at every step. Your current line keeps ringing until the switch.

03

Your number, live on Allo

The day before, the number shows up in your account so you can set it up. On the day, it moves to Allo with no downtime.

7 days. If it expires before the port starts, generate a new one and update the request.

On a personal account, no: one PIN covers the whole account, and you tell your new carrier which lines to move. On Verizon Business, each line gets its own PIN.

Dial *611, or in My Verizon go to Number Lock on the Security page, select Off for the line, confirm the code Verizon sends you and save.

Yes, for that line. Once the port is done, the number moves to Allo and the Verizon service on that line (calls, texts and data) ends. If you'd rather keep your plan, you can forward your calls to Allo instead of porting the number.

Nothing. Porting your number to Allo is free, and the number is part of your plan with no extra monthly fee. Your carrier may still bill what is left on a contract or a device payment plan.

Yes. Your number works as usual right up to the switch. You can also take a temporary Allo number to set everything up while you wait.

Calls move on the day of the switch. Outgoing texts can take up to 48 more hours while carriers update their routing. Allo numbers can't receive one-time passcodes (OTP), so keep another number for two-factor sign-ins.

Yes. You can port your number to another provider at any time, and Allo charges nothing for it. Try everything first with the 7-day free trial.
